Skinny Mini!

So today Madison went to visit the pediatrician for her 12 month check up. I like taking her to the doc. becuase it gives me a chance to ask a few questions and it makes me feel better about things I'd been worrying about. But I hate her having to get shots! Today she had to get 3! And this time they did it in her arms, There isn't even any fat in her arms, poor girl. We both cried.
Anyway, the real "exciting" news is that I got her official measurements and it turns out the bathroom scale wasn't as acuate as I thought.
Here are her stats, and what the doctor said about them.

Height: 27.5 inches <3 percentile.
Weight: 16.5 lbs <3 percentile, under weight

I knew she was small, but I didn't know she was THIS small! She was BARELY in the normal range for weight to height (7th percentile). He asked me again (he asked last time too) how tall me and Mahlon are and although he didn't seem too concerned, he said I should try to "fatten her up" He wrote her a "perscription" for pediasure and said try to get her to drink on once a day-for extra calories! I was so excited to not have to buy formula anymore and this stuff is almost more expensive! He also said to add butter, cheese, sour cream, anything really with fat and calories to her food to give her a little extra!
I'm not to worried about it, because I come from a very long line of very small people, I don't even know if It'll make a difference. He wants to see her again in a month to check her weight. We'll see then, I guess, so untill then- bring on the calories (for Madison anyway!)

That high cal stuff probably won't make a difference. Tyson had his own growth chart for 2 years and in his life has never exceeded beyond the 5th percentile; we've done diets, butter on everything, milk shake type drinks, even shots. I hate the peds that jump the gun because all it did was worry me when nothing was even changing with Tyson which worried me more. Then I went to a ped with more than half a brain and he said he's just small and that's that.

When it comes to newborns, babies, kids....everyone's got a different story and different opinion. I think your her best source and you'll do what's best for her. Keep up the good job.

Jenna weighed 16 lbs 2 months ago, so I am sure she is bigger than Madison already! I agree with Carrie though. If she is healthy, it shouldn't matter. Just be grateful that you are not at the entire other end of the spectrum and having to limit what she eats. Can you image having one of those big fat babies that you see on those trashy talk shoes?! I'm sure Madison is just her right size.

Madison comes from a line of very small people :) I wouldn't worry too much about it. My niece was below the 3rd percentile for a long time. She's now two. They started doing tests on her and it really freaked my sister out. She's just petite and I'm sure that's what Madison is as well. I think as long as she's eating and is healthy I wouldn't stress too much over it.

I'm jealous, I want to eat all the calories I want!!! :) I think it's cute she's so little. She can be a gymnast!

she is such a little cutie! My friend had a son that was little too and she bought him a milk shake everyday and just let him carry it around.

I say if she has chunky cheeks and rolls on her thighs, she's all good! :)

Don't stress too much, you may want to bring in some family pictures or comparison charts of your sisters or nieces/nephews to show him that the whole family is little. Sara had to do that to prove that Titus really was okay.
On the diet, Jaydee would love that diet, she thinks if sour cream, cheese or butter is out that she should be able to eat all that she wants. :) Take care it was good to see you!

Yeah, our ped in Flag freaked out when Caleb missed his birth weight by 2 ounces and grew an inch at his two week appointment.
They wanted me to supplement and everything.
I was, like, "Have you NEVER seen me or my huband? I'm a twig, lady, and my husband is a 6 foot, 1 inch string bean!" Thus, our child will always be in the 10-15th percentile for weight- get over it, crazy peds.

Our girls are growing great for our side but are TEENY compared to Blain's sisters kids. Oh well. As long as they're growing they're good. It was so fun to see you at the reunion. I wish we'd been able to be there more, but I am still working on the one nap a day thing and so obviously I didn't get it done in time for the reunion. Oh well. You just gotta keep going.
